Semester 2 takes place at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) in Milan, Italy, a highly meaningful setting for deepening the program’s focus on inclusive education. Italy has a long-standing tradition in this field, internationally recognized for its early commitment to school integration and the progressive development of policies promoting the full participation of all learners within mainstream education.
This semester explores how inclusion is shaped by the interaction between micro- and macro-level constraints and individual development, addressing the complex relationship between personal needs, educational contexts, institutional frameworks, and social inequalities. Students also develop competencies in inclusive management, learning how schools and educational services can design effective strategies, coordinate resources, and support professionals in creating accessible and equitable learning environments.
A central component of Semester 2 is the concept of educational alliances, emphasizing collaboration between schools, families, local communities, health and social services, and policy actors. This perspective reflects the Italian approach to inclusion, which values shared responsibility and multi-agency cooperation as essential conditions for building sustainable and truly inclusive educational pathways.
