Programma
Fighting terrorism and violent extremism involves more than surveillance and security. Prevention is key. The most effective prevention strategies stop people from getting involved in violent extremism or acts of terrorism in the first place. The Italian government established the Study Commission on Radicalization and Jihadi Extremism in September 2016, with the objective of recommending preventative measures in 2017. On January 5, 2017, the Commission reported to Italian Premier Paolo Gentiloni that, while Italy has been spared the extremist attacks suffered elsewhere in Europe, it must not consider itself immune and must develop strategies to prevent radicalization. Moreover, right wing extremist political sentiment is growing with some high profile violent cases. Terrorism does not stop at national borders; neither should efforts to undermine the recruitment of future terrorists. The Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) brings together practitioners from around Europe working on the prevention of radicalisation. We invite you to come and join the network.
