Abstract
Agent causation is the view that the agent herself and not some events inside and/or outside the agent initiate the performance of an action. Generally agent causation is connected with libertarian freedom, which makes it a rather complex higher order capacity. In this talk I am going to argue that agent causation is a concept with a much broader application. Conceptual analysis and research from developmental psychology indicate that agent causation appears to be a more basic concept than (libertarian) freedom. I will argue for this claim and aim at specifying the core of the proposed agency concept.
