FAQ - International students

Before your departure…..

1. Generally how long is a master program?
Master courses last 1 academic year corresponding 60 ects. A period of 3 months is in internship within an organization or private company. Master in journalism has 2 years and recognizes 120 ects.

2. Does the master program include any internship project?
Most master programs include an internship approximately 3 months long. During this period, students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the class to real problems and work on a final project. The main results from this internship activity are to be included in the student’s final work

3. What sort of facilities does University offer to the master’s students?
The students can use all the facilities offered by University: e-learning platform “blackboard”, wireless, language courses, cafeteria, health service, education guidance, internship and placement office, library, sports and cultural centre.

4. How can I apply to a master programme?
You can apply filling the form downloaded online.
Application and the other supporting documents must be send to the following address:

5. How can I enrol to a master programme?
Once admitted to the Master program will receive an email with the confirmation and the indication of next steps to complete the enrolment.
Students who have a Degree Certificate issued by a non-Italian University must also provide the "Dichiarazione di Valore”, issued by the Italian Embassies (or Consulates) that authenticates a foreign degree certificate.
To obtain the "Dichiarazione di Valore" students must apply to the Italian Embassy (or Consulate) of the country/region where they completed university studies and provide them with a notarized translation of the diploma into the Italian language.
In some countries, obtaining the "Dichiarazione di Valore" may take up to two months or longer.
Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore's Masters Division can assist you in your effort to obtain the "Dichiarazione di Valore".

6. What should I do to get a student visa?
After the admission to master programme, you have to contact the Italian diplomatic representations in your country (Embassy or Consulate) and make an appointment to obtain the visa. On the day of convocation you have to submit the invitation letter produced by university to obtain the visa student.

7. Is any scholarship available for foreign students to attend a master programme?
Yes Università Cattolica joins to international programmes promoting scholarships for foreign students.

Arrival in Italy

8. May I find any help for documents and administrative matters once arrived in Italy?
Master office offers Welcome Service, which will help you in the first days of your stay in Milan.
The Welcome Service, will assist you in the application for Permit of Stay, medical insurance and housing

9. How can I find an accommodation for the first days of my permanence in Milan?
You can find an accommodation in hostels or residence for students. The Welcome Service can provide indications of hostels and residence offering discount rates. The costs are around 25/30€ per night.

10. Where can I apply for a Permit of Stay?
Within 8 days of arrival in Italy, you have to go to a post office and request the kit of Permit of Stay.
In order to obtain a residence permit, you must submit:
The application form;
Photocopy of Fiscal Code;
Admission letter produced by the university;
Document proving your economical condition;
Copy of Passport;
4 passport photos;
Medical insurance;
A stamp of 14.62 euros.

11. May I find a job during my stay in Italy?
Yes, you can find a part-time job for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

12. Where can I attend Italian language courses? 
Selda Institute and International Relation of Catholic University organize courses for foreign students who want to improve Italian. 


Comune di Milano also proposes Italian language courses.
